Moon Wheel – Sound Designer

Moon Wheel is a project by Olle Holmberg, a Swedish multidisciplinary artist, composer and performer. Increasingly prolific and vital to the Berlin scene, Holmberg has gradually garnered a cult following locally and abroad through his finely-crafted and constantly evolving productions. Holmberg’s cerebral, shape-shifting compositions are inspired by “nature, history, and wandering”, synthesising electronic and organic sounds through dubby groove deconstructions, uncanny ghost-in-the-machine moods, and hyper-dimensional psychedelic hazes. From a starting point in the esoteric and cosmic synthesiser music of the 70s and 80s, his sound has intersected Berlin’s infamous techno landscape, unraveled it, and begun exploring theories of ecosystems and geological processes to be translated in to abstracted sound design and spectral sculptures. Drawing on improvisation as a mode of discovery, his continually advancing live performances and DJ sets have appeared at Berghain and Panorama Bar, Boiler Room, and at festivals like CTM in Berlin, as well as TodaysArt in The Hague, Norbergfestival in Sweden, and tours all over Europe and the North American East Coast. Moon Wheel has been reaping praise as a producer with a “subtle knack for building a mood” (Resident Advisor), that is “at his best when dissolving the boundaries in weird dub scapes” (Boomkat), and has released albums on Not Not Fun in L.A., Where To Now? in London, as well as EPs on Wool in Paris, Habitat in Melbourne. The future will see records on Nous in Berlin, Minicromusic in Warsaw, Ascetic House in the U.S., and on Kontra-Musik in Sweden. He has also hosted the show The Journey on Berlin Community Radio since 2013 and was composer in residence at EMS electronic music studios in Stockholm in 2015. http://moonwheel.org | http://soundcloud.com/moonwheel | http://olleholmberg.com/art/
