Strangers moving things

Gaia is the second responsive installation about human perception of artificial structures with life like behavior as well as morphology by Martin Kim and eight students of the University of Applied Sciences Mannheim. It’s a study on the Uncanny Valley with a simple and clearly visible technical structure. The Media Equation Theory states that a unknown responsive entity will be compared by humans with a known natural entity and treated a such. Regarding this the team found that some visitors refuse to enter the space because of the installation being “creepy” or even “disgusting”. With now improved swarm like communications and interactive skills their goal is to research if more people feel like this.
