Daria Kaufman is a contemporary dancer and choreographer based in Lisbon, Portugal. Though formally trained, her work takes an experimental approach, plumbing the edges of genres to deconstruct notions of perception, femininity, and communication. After performing, creating and presenting in San Francisco for 8 years, she immigrated to Lisbon in 2014, where she continues to work. Daria obtained her MFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from Mills College in 2008. Since then, her pieces have been presented at venues and festivals throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Europe, including: Curtas de Dança, in scope of Festival Dias de Dança (Porto/PT), Encontro Bianual de Artes Performativas - (Re)union 2018 (Lisbon/PT), Biblioteca de Marvila (Lisbon), Atelier Concorde (Lisbon), Festival Cidade PreOcupada (Montemor-o-Novo/PT), UferStudios (Berlin/DE), ODC Theater (SF/USA), Joe Goode Annex (SF), NOHspace (SF), Mills College (Oakland), and on KQED Spark TV (SF Bay Area). She was nominated for an Isadora Duncan Dance Award (the “Izzie”) for Individual Performance in 2015. Her work has been supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, GDA Foundation, the European Cultural Foundation, and the Zellerbach Family Foundation. In addition, her projects have been awarded Artist-in-Residencies at Atalaia Artes Performativas (Aljustrel/PT), ÇATI Dans (Istanbul/TR), Atelier Concorde (Lisbon), Devir-Capa (Faro/PT), and Cultivamos Cultura (Sao Luis/PT).
